Wake Enhanced Boating Restriction

The Three Mile Lake Association is considering pursuing a federal Vessel Operation Restriction Regulation (VORR) with Transport Canada to prohibit wake-enhanced boating activities such as wake-surfing. Research and local observations show that these high-energy waves can resuspend nutrient-rich sediments, accelerate shoreline erosion, and contribute to conditions that favour harmful algae blooms. This initiative is not about restricting powerboats or watersports such as skiing or wakeboarding. It is about protecting a highly sensitive lake using targeted, evidence-based measures related specifically to wake-enhanced (ballast) boating for wake surfing.
