E.Coli Advisory – Stream Inlet at Carlos Enterprise Road – August 6, 2025
Please be advised that on July 30, the Three Mile Lake Association (TMLA) conducted routine E. coli (Escherichia coli) sampling at several stream inlets flowing into the lake.
One sample, taken at the stream inlet from Raymond, located on Carlos Enterprise Rd. (north shore of the eastern main basin), returned a concerning result of 550 CFU/100 mL.
GPS coordinates: 45.184025, -79.437414
For context, the provincial threshold for posting public beaches is 200 CFU/100 mL. The other three inlets sampled that day tested between 7 and 17 CFU/100 mL — well within safe limits.
We submitted the samples to the York-Durham Regional Environmental Laboratory, and upon receiving the high result, we immediately reached out to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit for guidance.
Unfortunately, both agencies advised that no action will be taken because this inlet is on private land.
As a result, the responsibility falls to local property owners to assess risks and take any necessary precautions for potable and non-potable water use and recreational contact in this area. We recommend that property owners in that area take precautions and have their source water tested. For information, follow this link: Safe Water
Stay safe and informed,
